#MANIFESTO

{A Contemporary Poem that Gives a Clear Picture of Nigerian Democracy}

(Part One)
Chief Hare appeared
In a dignified manner
Suitably attired in a white rob
Advancing in a simulated ponderous deportment
To mount the rostrum and canvas for support
To be made the king
Of the animals kingdom
Via the medium of the manifesto
Amidst the pro Hare chants
Followed by the thundering drumbeats
And tumultuous applause of a teaming gathering
Of all the animals
Attaining a synergy
Capable of breaking one’s eardrum.
The chief cleared his throat
And got down to business
By first chanting the animals’ slogan, thus:
One kingdom! (The chant)
One great family! (The response)
For several times

(Part Two)
I’m in raptures
For the privilege granted
To hold the floor
In this momentous occasion
My eventual accession to the throne
As the King of this emergent kingdom
Marks the dawn of new era
As it will be freed
From the fetters of oppression and tyranny
At human’s hands.
Any form of aggression
Shall be resented and rejected in totality.
Any modicum of nursed grudge and rancour
Among comrades shall be greeted with repugnance,
While I’ll unleash an unswerving pursuit
For justice, equity and fairness.
A radical overhaul of the kingdom’s security machinery
Will be one of the priorities
Food security will also be guaranteed
And the kingdom shall be rid of
The nagging issue of a feeble infrastructure.
