Benue State University (BSU) Admission requirements
In addition to the entry requirements specific to individual faculties or departments, the following are the general entry requirements approved for admission to the first degree programmes of the University by JAMB. You can be admitted into BSU through UTME and DE.
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME)
Applicants must write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and attain an acceptable score in the use of English and three other subjects relevant to the proposed course of study.
Prior to sitting for the UTME, applicants should have attained the age of 16. For a candidate who has attained the acceptable standard in the UTME to be registered for a course in the University he/she must obtain:
Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level) or equivalent with Credits in five (5) subjects relevant to the courses and obtained at not more than two sittings.
Direct Entry (DE )
Applicant with one of the following qualifications may be considered for admission by Direct Entry:
- A minimum of five (5) subjects passed at not more than two sittings with at least two at the principal or advanced level of the GCE and the others, at credit level of the SSCE/GCE O/Level. No subject shall be counted at both Ordinary and Advanced levels.
- Passes in two major subjects at the NCE with SSCE O/level credits or equivalents in THREE other subjects (mainly for Education Courses). Education may be accepted as a third A/level subject for those taking courses in Education.

iii. A maximum of two passes at the IJMB examination or Cambridge moderated School of Basic Studies terminal examination or International Baccalaureate from recognized institutions with SSCE/GCE O/Level credits or equivalent in three other subjects (SUBJECT TO UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS).
- In order to enable you settle down quickly, you are requested to strictly adhere to the following steps in the screening and registration process.
Procedure For Screening And Registration Of Fresh Candidates
- Check for your admission on the Benue State University Portal and print details on payment of N400 using the e-payment platform (with link on the University website) or at the designated banks.
- Proceed to pay the acceptance fee of Five Thousand, Five Hundred naira (N5,500) non-refundable to Benue State University, Makurdi using the e-payment platform or at the designated banks.
iii. Proceed to upload the following documents on the BSU portal for on-line screening
- Original academic qualifications.
- Original JAMB Result slip with embossed passport photograph.
- Original Direct Entry Online e-registration printout with embossed passport photograph.
- Birth certificate/declaration of age.
- Certificate of State Origin.
- Proceed to print Admission Letter on the BSU Portal and complete the screening forms Online, print and sign.
- Proceed to pay the approved tuition fees using the e-payment platform or at the designated banks. This also applies to all successful Preliminary French, Science and Vocation and Technology Education candidates who have been placed in various degree programmes.
- The designated banks are as follows:
* Fidelity Bank Plc.
* Zenith Bank Plc.
* ECO Bank Plc.
* Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.
* Sterling Bank Plc.
* Diamond Bank Plc.
* Access Bank Plc.
* FCMB
* First Bank of Nigeria Plc.
* United Bank for Africa Plc.
* Unity Bank Plc.
* Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.
* Skye Bank Plc.
* Keystone Bank Plc.
* Mainstream Bank Plc.
* Stanbic Bank Plc.
vii. Proceed to Academic Office for documentation.
viii. Proceed again to register Online by completing the following forms:
* Personal Data.
* Course Registration.
* Medical Form.
* Matriculation Oath Form.
Print and duly sign these forms.
- Proceed to College, Faculty and Departmental offices for documentation.
- Proceed to Student Affairs Division for documentation.
- Proceed to the University Library for documentation.
- Proceed to the University Clinic for documentation.
- Proceed to Security Department for documentation.
- You have now completed your registration and ready to be matriculated. Matriculation of all registered candidates shall hold on Thursday, 19th May, 2016. Note that failure to register will lead to non-matriculation and subsequent disqualification of your admission.
- Watch out for the orientation and matriculation programmes.
- Registration by proxy is PROHIBITED.
Change of name(s) is PROHIBITED.
- Below is the checklist of requirements for screening and registration:
- Processing fee receipt of payment of Five Thousand, Five Hundred naira (N5,500).
- BSU Admission Letter.
- Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening test result.
- Original JAMB admission letter (Check JAMB website).
- Original UTME result slip with embossed passport photograph.
- Original Direct Entry online e-registration printout with embossed passport photograph.
- Original of academic qualifications.
- Birth certificate/declaration of age.
- Certificate of State of Origin.
- Writing materials.
- Twelve (12) passport photographs.
- Candidates who are unsuccessful at the screening process may wish to report at the Academic Office with their screening forms and other credentials for further directives.
